Goal mapping
At this point in the FutureCasting course, you have critically examined who you are, developed an identity package to communicate who you are to others, projected your thinking into the future, and considered the steps you will need to take to achieve your goals. Today, we will work toward ensuring that the goals you have considered are aligned with your values, beliefs, and who you are as a person. We will also work to formalize the steps needed to achieve measurable outcomes (i.e. goals!).
One of the primary steps in achieving a goal is to know the steps you will take to get there. Goals for most people tend to be the "ultimate" goal, but often they do not break that goal down into it's constituent parts. Without a parsimonious understanding of the goal the many parts seem overwhelming. Goal Mapping is a process by which you take that ultimate goal and begin the process of breaking it down into its more manageable parts.
There are two options for you to engage this process. Please review the options below and select the one that you believe will be most beneficial to you. I encourage you to dream BIG as we will be working this process for a couple of days. First step: Complete the Brian Mayne's Goal Mapping process. Colored pencils, markers, and paper have been provided.

The list
Create a list of 25 things that set you apart from your peers, classmates, colleagues, and competition. Questions to consider as you generate your list:
You will have 15 minutes to complete your list, so work quickly!
Before you move on, we need to talk about what makes you unique...
- What makes you unique?
- How do your actions define you and differentiate you from others?
- What surprises people about you?
- What are you most interested to share with others?
- If you were going to win an award for innovation in your field or area of interest, what would the award be for?

reflect on identity
Your identity package is almost complete, just a few minor edits before the deadline...
Before you submit the final package, consider the ways in which the materials in the identity package represent you by reflecting on the following:
Values & Interests
Go back to the values and interest inventories you completed in this course.
Personality
How does the work you have done so far communicate your personality?
To the best of your ability, look at your materials without preferential bias (i.e. confirmation bias) and make an assessment of the kind of person who is presenting the materials.
Other's Expectations

Values & Interests
Go back to the values and interest inventories you completed in this course.
- How are your values and interests represented in your identity package?
- What visual cues do you use to represent your values and interests?
- What do you say that communicates your values without explicitly stating those values?
Personality
How does the work you have done so far communicate your personality?
To the best of your ability, look at your materials without preferential bias (i.e. confirmation bias) and make an assessment of the kind of person who is presenting the materials.
- What kind of person created those materials?
- Does the person fit the job or position they say they want?
- What judgments would you make about this person based on his or her materials?
Other's Expectations
- What is your disposition and how do you communicate that in your brand?
- What would an employer (or university if you applying for graduate school) expect from you that is different from what they can expect from your competition?
- What is your tagline/motto and how does that make you memorable?
Your Expectations
- What is your expectation for earnings? How do your materials demonstrate the level you expectation you might have for earnings?
- What are your non-negotiables (i.e. What aspects of work and life are you not willing to compromise on under any circumstances?)? How do they drive your efforts/work/thinking/actions?
- Is there a specific place (i.e. geographic location) you want or need to be? How does place inform your decisions as you look for placement?
Exit Ticket
